What are Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions?

Scope 1, 2 and 3 is the categorisation of various carbon emissions a company creates during its own operations as well those across the supply chain.

Scope 1 - Direct Emissions

Emissions from owned or controlled sources including fuel combustion on-site such as from boilers and owned vehicles.

Scope 2 - Indirect Emissions

Emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, steam, heating, and cooling consumed by the reporting company.

Scope 3 - Value Chain Emissions

All other indirect emissions that occur in a company’s value chain, that is, which you do not own or control and which are not classed as Scope 2. This might include, for example, waste disposal or purchased materials or fuels.
