ESOS Phase 3 Submission Deadline Extended!

Good news for those who need to comply with ESOS phase 3, the final deadline has been extended! Companies now have until the 6th of August 2024.

Participants must still be registered to submit by 6th June 2024, but have until 6th August to complete.

What you need to know…

ESOS is currently in Phase 3 of the four-year cycle of the government’s Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS). It builds upon phases 1 and 2, where organisations need to assess their energy use and implement energy efficiency measures.

For ESOS Phase 3, if any of your organisation is based in the UK and its group undertakings qualify as large ventures on the qualification date, they must comply with the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) regulations.

This would be the case if your organisation or group has: more than 250 employees, a turnover of over £44.1 million, an annual balance sheet of over 43 million Euros (£37.9m), more than 250 employees in the UK, or is a member of a larger organisation which meets any of the criteria.

The above organisations are required to review their energy use every four years. This is to help them meet the government’s target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

How can this be done?

Organisations must carry out energy audits to identify potential energy-saving opportunities and must report their energy usage to the Environment Agency. A qualified assessor will also need to be appointed for a valid ESOS assessment to take place.

Organisations that comply with ESOS Phase 3 of this scheme will benefit from cost savings through energy efficiency measures, as well as regulatory compliance and other environmental benefits.

If you have not yet begun your submission, now is an appropriate time to start considering what needs to be done, as the June 2024 deadline will quickly arrive.
