Land's End to John O'Groats Fundraising Challenge

Published: 23rd April 2020

Advantage Utilities Fundraising Challenge - lockdown style!

Like so many across the nation, our team were both humbled and inspired by Captain Tom Moore’s remarkable efforts and life story, along with the generous support of the British public, who have donated and raised over £30Million for NHS charities. Wow!

Amid the Worldwide destruction caused by COVID-19, it has in some respects proved a catalyst for showcasing the very best in human behaviour.

Having also seen the increased challenges and demands being faced by our charity partners; The Smile Brigade and Autism Bedfordshire, Hannah Thomas our Senior Energy Consultant was motivated to initiate our own efforts and came up with a Lands End to John O’Groats team challenge.

The Challenge:

In a team effort, but being taken part individually whilst at home and in accordance with government guidelines; the aim is to walk or run the equivalent distance of 874 miles or 1046km that it takes to travel the whole length of Great Britain, from Lands End to John O’Groats.

Starting the challenge on Monday 27th April, we have set our team taking part 14 days to complete the full distance and will be recording our milage on a daily basis, whilst hopefully raising some much needed funds for some truly excellent causes in the process.

About the Charities:

The Smile Brigade is a charity local to our head office in London and is current supplying care packages and free meals to some of the most vulnerable, underprivileged, elderly and isolated in society. Having sent some of our team to volunteer with them in December we have seen first-hand the difference they make to people’s lives and they are currently trying to cater for increased demand.

Autism Bedfordshire is a charity we have supported for over 10yrs now and they provide much needed and comprehensive emotional and practical support for the individuals and families affected by autism. Prevailing circumstances dictate that the need for their services is now greater than ever.

We fully appreciate that it is a difficult time fraught with economic uncertainty however any contribution, however small, would be gratefully appreciated and would be split equally between two fantastic organisations whom make a huge difference to people’s lives.
