Land’s End to John O’Groats Challenge - Completed!

Published: 13th May 2020

We did it!

On the 27th April 2020 Advantage Utilities embarked on our very own lockdown version of the Lands’ End to John O’Groats Challenge; between us, we travelled the equivalent distance of 875 miles within 14 days.

After a fantastic team effort to reach our goal, we are extremely pleased to have completed the team challenge on Sunday 10th May, with just over 875 miles in the bag!

We would like to thank everyone who donated and helped us exceed the original target of £1000, raising a total sum of £2000 that will go towards The Smile Brigade and Autism Bedfordshire. Scroll down to see more photos captured during our adventure.

Charity Work:

In addition to the Challenge, on Thursday 7th May, Janey, Annabel and Fiona from our team spent a day volunteering with one of the chosen charities; The Smile Brigade.

The Smile Brigade is a charity local to our office in Fulham, who offer subsidised services for people on low income or at risk of loneliness, isolation and poverty in Hammersmith & Fulham and surrounding areas. They rely primarily on volunteers and donations provided by local businesses, residents and fundraisers like ours.

The charity is doing an amazing job supporting the local council and social services during the COVID-19 crisis; offering a delivery service of free meals and care packages to over 450 vulnerable people who are shielding at home as a result of government guidance.

Our team took part in packing over 160 food bags ready for delivery, phoning the list of members to check-in on how they were doing and delivering packages to peoples homes. Having experienced the efforts first-hand, our team gave huge credit to Monique Newton, the Founder & Director of The Smile Brigade and her team who are really making a huge difference to the lives of those at risk.

Autism Bedfordshire is another charity close to home, with the CEO of Advantage Utilities, Andy Grover, having an autistic nephew; the money we have raised is vital for Alexander and his friends, providing them with additional support from specialist trained staff, who help autistic people build confidence, self-esteem and both social and practical skills, allowing them to lead a more independent life.
